Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU) is a member-owned financial institution. Like many credit unions, what sets it apart isn’t always easy to describe. Members feel it, but that feeling is harder to explain to someone on the outside. So, how do you communicate something that’s intangible?

It’s a bit like saying, “I’m funny.” You can say it, but no one really believes you until they see it for themselves. So instead of trying to explain the feeling, we decided to show it.
We started with the people who know WSECU best: its members. We went into the archives and pulled real words from real members, capturing how they describe their experiences in their own language. Love it Broadcast TV, CTV, Online Awesome Bleep

Of course, testimonials aren’t new. We had to go beyond the blah-blah. The answer came from the words themselves. We looked for cues within the language, small signals that could turn those statements into something more visual and memorable. Then we built on them, working collaboratively with our clients, within the agency, and even bringing in improv writers to help shape the moments so they felt natural, relatable, and just a little unexpected. Casting was equally important. We needed someone who embodied what WSECU stands for: approachable, likable, and flexible enough to carry both the humor and the heart of the idea. The result was a series of videos that celebrated the joy in real member testimonials.

This was a true partnership from start to finish. Our clients at WSECU worked alongside us throughout the process, helping push the ideas and make them stronger at every stage. We were also fortunate to collaborate with director Adam Bernstein of Emerald Pictures and cinematographer Paula Huidobro, whose ability to balance tone and performance brought an added level of finish to the work.
